Explosions heard in Addis Ababa

Two explosions were heard at about 2100 local time in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on the night of 22 April. Through official media, the government later acknowledged the explosions, and said they had been an “accident”. Security sources in Addis Ababa who heard the explosions told IRIN that it was “some type of surface-to-surface missile”. The explosions went from south to north Addis Ababa, and were about 20 seconds apart, the source said. The daily ‘Monitor’ said in an editorial that the incident had added to the “edgy mood” in the city, after riots broke out last week.
