A group of eminent Nigerians met at the weekend to discuss the current standoff between Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo and members of the national assembly who want to impeach him.
Sources said "far-reaching decisions" had been taken at the meeting by the group known as, The Patriots, Nigeria's Guardian newspaper reported.
The source did not disclose the decisions, however, promising instead that they would be given at a press conference that was to take place on Tuesday, the paper said. A source in Lagos told IRIN on Tuesday the conference was delayed.
The paper quoted a source as saying the group was worried that Obasanjo's impeachment move could scuttle the country's civil rule and resolved to adopt a "mature-approach" to end the face-off, such that a harmonious relations between Obasanjo and the legislators would be brokered.
